Tigers Fend Off Foxes For Section Win, 3-2

The first-place North Allegheny girls’ soccer team remained perfect in Section 1-AAAA action with a 3-2 triumph at Fox Chapel on Monday night. The Tigers hold sole possession of first place in the section with a 4-0 record. NA sits at 6-1 overall.

The hero from Saturday’s win at Upper St. Clair, junior Sarah Schupansky, picked up where she left off with a goal in the 10th minute of the contest to give NA a 1-0 lead. Fox Chapel answered back just four minutes later to even the score at 1-1.

North Allegheny controlled the pace for the remainder of the half and cashed in with two goals before halftime to grab a 3-1 lead. Schupansky tallied her second marker of the night, and sixth goal of the season, in the 24th minute and freshman Lucia Wells added another goal in the 29th minute to give the Tigers a two-goal advantage by intermission. For Wells, it was her fourth goal of the campaign.

Fox Chapel played evenly with the Tigers in the second half and trimmed the NA lead to 3-2 with a goal in the 70th minute. However, goalie Madison Vukas and the NA defense would not allow the Foxes to come any closer in the remaining minutes and finished off the one-goal victory.

North Allegheny hopes to continues its winning ways with a home game against Butler on Wednesday night. Fox Chapel is also in action on Wednesday with a visit to Seneca Valley.
