Tigers Get Ram-Bunctious, Win at P-R 15-0

The North Allegheny Varsity Softball Team traveled to Pine-Richland High School on Wednesday afternoon and returned home with a convincing 15-0 victory in a five-inning contest shortened by the ten-run rule. All sixteen Varsity players contributed to a solid team win. The Tigers broke open the competitive game in the final inning by scoring nine runs to go from a 6-0 advantage to the final score. North Allegheny’s offense pounded out sixteen hits, which, coupled with five walks and three P-R errors, gave NA 24 base runners during the contest.

Tiger offensive highlights included multiple-hit games from senior third baseman Allie Green (3 for 3 including a home run and 3 RBI); Laura Ryder (3 for 4, all doubles, and 3 RBI); freshman shortstop Rachel Martindale (3 for 4 with 3 RBI and 2 doubles); and senior catcher Liz Scherer (2 for 4 with 2 RBI).

In a game played in very windy conditions, the Tiger infield of Green, Martindale, senior second baseman Lacey Hilderbrand, and senior first baseman Mollie Benvenuto, and the outfield of sophomore left fielder Anna Pilotta, sophomore center fielder Shannon Hamm, and junior right fielder Maddy DeRubbo played solid team defense, committing only one error to support senior pitcher Madi Beining, who allowed five hits while issuing no walks and striking out seven.

A defensive highlight for the Rams was a sensational running, against-the-fence catch by Pine-Richland center fielder Emma Keilly to rob Ryder of a fourth hit.

The Tigers are scheduled to see action at home against Brashear High School on Thursday afternoon at NASH Field, with the first pitch scheduled for 4:00 PM. Follow any possible cancellations by visiting the North Allegheny Athletic Website for the latest information.
