Tigers Knockout Knights In WPIAL First Round, 5-0
The reigning WPIAL Class AAA champions began their trek for a seventh straight title with a 5-0 sweep over Norwin on Thursday afternoon. The Tigers cruised to the WPIAL first round victory against the visiting Knights.
In convincing fashion, the NA singles players lost only a single point between three Tigers combined. Freshman Nora Catanzarite and junior Jenny Zhu breezed to 6-0, 6-0 wins in No. 1 and No. 3 singles, respectively. At No. 2 singles, senior Ella Sinciline delivered a 6-1, 6-0 triumph over Trinity Miller.
In doubles play, the tandem of Claire Shao and Emily Wincko vanquished Sadie Cuturic and Samantha Stinner, 6-2, 6-0. At No. 2 doubles, Abbey Swirsding and Ashley Chung collected a 6-1, 6-1 victory against Isha Vyas and Jordan Napierkowski to complete the sweep.
North Allegheny leaps to 15-2 overall on the season and advances to the WPIAL quarterfinals on Monday to face the Latrobe Wildcats. Latrobe defeated Thomas Jefferson on Thursday, 5-0, in its first-round matchup.
