Tigers Leave Raiders In Their Wake

Swimmers set four pool records as the North Allegheny swimming and diving teams swept Seneca Valley on Tuesday, February 3.  Both the NA girls and boys each won 97-81, with each team remaining undefeated in WPIAL Section 2.

For the girls, senior Jacquelyn Du set a pool record in the 100-yard backstroke with a time of 56.74, and she teamed with fellow seniors Morgan Soulia and Kayla Churman and freshman Ann Juneau to win the 200-yard medley relay in a pool-record time of 1:48.00.  Other first-place finishers in individual events for the girls were sophomore Daniella Torres in the 200-yard freestyle (2:06.65); sophomore Megan Christy in the 200-yard individual medley (2:18.18); sophomore Anna Verardi in the 50-yard freestyle (25.21); sophomore Eliza Ross in the100-yard butterfly (1:02.93); sophomore Lauren McGrath in the 100-yard freestyle (53.82); freshman Kristine Mihm in the 500-yard freestyle (5:27.82); and Juneau in the 100-yard breaststroke (107.35).

For the boys, senior Casey Melzer set a pool record in the 100-yard breast with a time of 58.51, and teamed with fellow senior Greg Arnold and juniors Colin MacDonald and Daniel Songer to win the 200-yard medley relay in a pool-record time of 1:38.77.  Other first-place finishers in individual events for the boys were sophomore Brett Edwards in the 200-yard freestyle (1:53.29); junior Gage Halle in the 200-yard individual medley (2:04.98); freshman Mason Gonzalez in the 50-yard freestyle (22.41); sophomore Max Gonzalez in the 100-yard freestyle (49.86); sophomore Eben Krigger in the 500-yard freestyle (4:59.57); and MacDonald in the 100-yard backstroke (56.33).

In diving, senior Andrew Doerfler won the boys’ 1-meter competition with a score of 240.70.

The NA swimming and diving teams will honor their senior teammates this Thursday, February 5, when they host West Allegheny at North Allegheny Senior High.
