Tigers March Toward Victory At Hempfield, 3-2

The North Allegheny field hockey team earned an important Section 1-AAA win on Tuesday night with a 3-2 triumph at Hempfield.

In the first half, Mila Prusak and Lauren Kampi scored goals to help North Allegheny keep pace with Hempfield. Prusak’s tally was her team-leading 13th of the season and Kampi’s goal, her ninth of the campaign, came on a penalty corner with just 49 seconds remaining before halftime and tied the game at 2-2.

Coming out of intermission, North Allegheny scored what proved to be the game-winning goal on a marker from senior forward Sofia Mianzo with 11:17 left in the third quarter. Mianzo’s fourth goal of the year came on a penalty stroke and propelled the Tigers toward victory.

Junior goalie Jordan Ashbaugh helped stave off the Spartans in the remaining minutes with several terrific saves.

With the win, North Allegheny improves to 8-6 overall and 6-3 in Section 1-AAA. Hempfield falls to 5-4 in section play. The Tigers will host Allderdice on Thursday evening at 5:30 p.m.
