Tigers Notch 4-0 Section Win Over North Hills

Posted on:

Reaching the midway point of the season on Monday night, the North Allegheny girls’ soccer team pushed its section record to 4-1 with a dominant 4-0 victory over the North Hills Indians. The Lady Tigers have won 7 of their last 8 games and sit at 7-2 overall on the season.

North Allegheny started quickly in the first half and scored in the game’s 2nd minute on a marker by Ava Ruppersberger for a 1-0 lead. The lead might have been larger for NA in the first half if not for the strong play of Indians sophomore goalie Grace Lyon. Lyon kept North Hills within striking distance after one half play, trailing the Tigers, 1-0.

In the second half, the one-sided nature of the contest continued and the Tigers’ persistent pressure eventually buried the Indians. Senior Morgan Anderson scored with 29:31 to play for her team-leading seventh goal of the season and a 2-0 lead. A little over four minutes later, junior Alex Adams made a sparkling play by heading the ball forward on a pass, dribbling through the North Hills defense and uncorking a shot from 15 yards out and into the net for a 3-0 lead. The goal was Adams’ sixth on the year and helped her earn Wright Automotive Player of the Game honors.

Rounding out the scoring, freshman Sarah Schupansky netted her third goal of the season with a marker from 25 yards out that brought the score to 4-0 with 2:49 remaining.

The Lady Tigers outshot the Indians, 14-3, and led in corner kicks, 2-0. Goalies Julia Correa and Olivia Ruppersberger combined for the shutout.

North Allegheny returns to action on Wednesday night with a non-section game against Bethel Park at Newman Stadium.
