Tigers Rally From Five Down For 10-9 Triumph At Fox Chapel

North Allegheny rallied from a five-goal deficit in the second half for a thrilling 10-9 win at Fox Chapel on Wednesday night. Sophomore attack Griffin Lynch scored a pair of goals, including the game-winning tally with 2:34 remaining, to propel the Tigers to victory in the Section 2-AAA opener.

Fox Chapel held a 7-3 lead at the half and increased the advantage to 8-3 on a goal by junior Nolan Adams, his fifth of the game, less than two minutes into the third quarter.

The Foxes maintained their five-goal lead until 6:41 remained in the third quarter when senior Ben Rohan scored his first of the night, trimming the deficit to 8-4. Senior Nick Eck scored just over a minute later and Rohan netted another marker before the end of the third, bringing the score to 8-6, Foxes.

In the fourth quarter, back-to-back goals by junior Cole Bordo helped NA tie the game at 8-8 with 7:29 remaining. Fox Chapel answered back and regained a 9-8 lead on a goal by John Paul Walsh with 6:05 left to play. The momentum and the lead didn’t last long for the Foxes. Senior attack Andrew Myers knotted the score at 9-9 with 3:55 remaining and Lynch tallied the game-winning marker with 2:34 on the clock to lift NA to a 10-9 triumph. Sophomore Marco Pascarella assisted on the Lynch goal for the win.

On the scoresheet, Lynch, Eck, Bordo and Rohan all scored two goals each. Myers and junior Owen Bishop scored one goal apiece in the victory. Also playing a key role in the win was junior Ryan Barry, who won 19 of 20 faceoffs on the night. In net, senior goalie Aiden Miller made eight saves to earn the win.

North Allegheny improves to 2-0 overall and 1-0 in Section 2-AAA. The Tigers will have a tough non-section test against Mars on Friday night at 7:30 p.m. The game will be broadcast live via the internet on the North Allegheny Sports Network.
