Tigers Survive Titans, 3-2, To Lock Up Section Crown
On senior night, the North Allegheny boys’ volleyball team survived a stiff test from section foe Shaler on Thursday night, 3-2, to claim its 36th consecutive win and lock up a Section 2-AAA title. The Tigers won by set scores of 25-19, 21-25, 25-19, 23-25 and 17-15.
The Tigers outlasted the Titans in their toughest match of the season to the strong play of hitters Drew Hunker and Alex Zubrow with 22 and 16 kills, respectively. Senior Sava Topich had a standout performance with team-best numbers in blocks (6), aces (2) and assists (58). Senior libero Trevor Treser was terrific as well, notching 30 digs to pace the defense.
With the win, North Allegheny improves to 12-0 overall and 10-0 in Section 2-AAA. Shaler falls to 9-2 in the section. The Tigers will return to section play on Tuesday at North Hills at 7:00 p.m.
