Tigers Top Indians Again In Penguins Cup Final Rematch, 3-0

Posted on:

North Allegheny and Peters Township met at Printscape Arena in a rematch of the 2019 Class AAA Penguins Cup final. Tuesday’s result was the exact same as last year’s title tilt with the Tigers coming out on top, 3-0.

The Tigers netted single goals in each period, with the first coming at the 3:40 mark of the opening stanza courtesy of Tyler Lamark for an immediate 1-0 lead. The Lamark goal was assisted by Connor Chi and Trey Gallo.

Despite the early goal by NA, both teams settled in with physical defensive play that lasted deep into the second period. The Tigers were able to expand their lead to 2-0 when Tyler Sippel scored on a beautiful wrap-around goal at the 11:57 mark of the second period. Will Parreaguirre and Will Mench had helpers on the Sippel goal.

Peters Township had a golden opportunity early in the third period when the Tigers were called for an interference penalty. The Indians could not cash in on the man-advantage as goalie Tyler Boyles and the NA defense kept PT off the board. Boyles stopped all 27 shots he faced for the shutout and victory. For his efforts, Boyles was named the Wright Automotive Player of the Game by the North Allegheny Sports Network.

Parreaguirre was called for a tripping minor at 11:39 of the third period as the Indians had one last chance to get back into the game. The Tigers not only killed the penalty but started a 2-on-1 break just as Parreaguirre exited the penalty box. The NA senior captain accepted a pass from Luke Washabaugh and beat the Peters Township goal for the third and final goal of the night, locking up a 3-0 victory for the Tigers. Sippel also earned an assist on the Parreaguirre marker.

North Allegheny improves to 3-0 on the young season and jumps into a first-place tie with Peters Township and Canon-McMillan with six points in the standings. However, the Indians and Big Macs both have one loss on the year, sitting with a 3-1 record. North Allegheny returns to the ice on Thursday with a home date against Upper St. Clair at 9:10 p.m. at the Baierl Ice Complex.
