Tigers Triumph Over Tribe For Section Win, 51-19
Following a team championship at the Panther Classic over the weekend, the North Allegheny wrestling team continued its winning ways with a 51-19 section win over the rival North Hills Indians on Wednesday night.
It was a back-and-forth contest through the first four bouts with the lead changing hands three times. Beginning at 170 pounds, North Allegheny took an early 3-0 lead thanks to a 1-0 decision by Bobby Snyder over Ethan Mikovitz. North Hills jumped ahead 6-3 courtesy of a quick win by fall from Ethan Uechi at 182 pounds. The Tigers answered in kind when Nick Marcenelle earned a win by fall at 195 pounds, giving NA the lead back at 9-6. At 220 pounds, North Hills’ Damon Thompson picked a 10-6 decision to even the team score at 9-9.
Thompson’s win was the last time North Hills stayed close with the Tigers. NA won the next four bouts, two by fall and two by forfeit, to take a commanding 33-9 lead. Ben Grafton delivered a pin fall at 285 pounds and Sam Horton earned a fall at the 4:41 mark of his 113 pound bout with Derrick Falk. For his performance, Horton was selected as the Wright Automotive Wrestler of the Match.
North Hills cut the score to 33-15 following a pair of decisions from Matt Serwatka and Jeremy MacPherson at 126 and 132 pounds, respectively. The Tigers then won three of the final four bouts to secure a 51-19 triumph. Of the final three wins for the Tigers, two were by forfeit and one was a pin fall from Grant Mackay at 152 pounds.
With the win, North Allegheny improves to 2-0 on the season, while North Hills drops to 0-2 in section action. The Tigers will compete at the Beast of the East Invitational in Wilmington, Delaware this weekend.
