Tigers Upended By Raiders In Section Fray

The North Allegheny boys’ basketball lost a Section 1-6A contest on Friday night with a road defeat at Seneca Valley, 64-42.

The host Raiders used a strong start in each half to build what proved to be an insurmountable lead. Seneca Valley stormed out of the gates in the first quarter for a 22-6 lead before NA edged back in the second quarter, trimming the deficit to 30-20 by halftime. Junior forward Joey Dopirak scored seven points in the second period and finished with 12 points on the night.

Seneca Valley opened the second half in a flurry and outscored North Allegheny, 22-11, in the period to increase its lead to 52-31 heading into the fourth quarter. Senior Connor Oros finished off the win for SV with six points in the final quarter and totaled a game-high 18 points. Senior Andrew Roy netted 14 points and sophomore Tyler Pepin added 12 points.

Joining Dopirak in double figures for the Tigers was junior guard Anthony Sciote with 12 points and four 3-pointers.

North Allegheny slips to 4-7 overall and 1-3 in Section 1-6A. Seneca Valley improves to 5-7 overall and 2-2 in the section. The Tigers return to action on Tuesday with a home date against the Central Catholic Vikings at 7:30 p.m. The game will be broadcast live by the North Allegheny Sports Network.
