Timmerson’s Late-Game Heroics Propel NA Over Pine-Richland

The North Allegheny girls’ basketball team pulled out a hard-fought 51-46 win at Pine-Richland on Monday night in a Section 1-6A contest.

Tied 46-46 in the fourth quarter, senior Jasmine Timmerson took over the game and scored on a layup and was fouled with 30.9 seconds remaining. After Timmerson converted the free throw, the Tigers led, 49-46. On the ensuing possession, NA rebounded PR’s missed shot and Timmerson was fouled with 11.4 seconds left in regulation. With a one-plus-bonus opportunity at the charity stripe, the Pitt commit made both of her free throws to put the Rams away for an important section win.

The underdog Rams hung tough with the Tigers and broke a 14-14 tied with an 8-0 run to start the second quarter. Pine-Richland was paced by Madison Zavasky, who netted 23 points and converted on 7-of-8 from the free-throw line.

With Pine-Richland leading 22-14, North Allegheny responded with an 8-0 run of its own to knot the score. The back-and-forth nature of the game continued throughout the night until Timmerson’s heroic efforts in the final minute of the game. Timmerson finished with a game-high 24 points. Juniors Lydia Betz and Grace Heliger netted eight points each for the Tigers.

With a fourth consecutive win, North Allegheny improves to 12-4 overall and 6-1 in Section 1-6A. Pine-Richland dips to 8-9 overall and 2-5 in the section. The Tigers will stay in section play on Thursday night with a visit to Butler to take on the Golden Tornado at 7:30 p.m.
