Top-Ranked Tigers Blow Away Golden Tornado, 56-24

The top-ranked North Allegheny girls’ basketball team rolled to another Section 1-6A win on Friday night with a 56-24 defeat of the Butler Golden Tornado.

The Tigers pounced on the Tornado immediately with a 15-0 run to start the contest en route to the blowout victory. Senior Rachel Martindale scored 10 of NA’s first 15 points and finished with a game-high 15 points. For her efforts, Martindale was named the Wright Automotive Player of the Game by the North Allegheny Sports Network.

Joining Martindale in double figures was sophomore Lizzy Groetsch with 10 points. In all, nine different Tigers touched the scoresheet in a well-rounded performance.

Already up big at the half, 36-14, the Tigers left little doubt of the outcome by outscoring Butler 15-1 in the third quarter.

The win was North Allegheny’s 17th in a row against Butler, improving the Tigers record to 13-0 on the season and 6-0 in Section 1-6A. Butler drops to .500 with a 6-6 record and 2-4 section mark. The Tigers will visit North Hills on Tuesday night at 6:00 p.m.
