Top-Ranked Tigers Trounce Tornado, 60-24

North Allegheny won its 11th straight game on Thursday night with a 60-24 mercy-rule victory over the Butler Golden Tornado. The victory was also NA’s 15th in a row in the head-to-head series with the Golden Tornado.

The Tigers, the highest scoring team in Class 6A, were facing a Butler squad that was tops in the classification in scoring defense, allowing only 36 points per game. The Golden Tornado limited NA to just a 5-4 lead by late in the first quarter before the Tigers busted the game open thanks to a 14-0 run. From that point on, North Allegheny blew away the Golden Tornado with 11 different players touching the scoresheet.

The Lady Tigers were paced by junior Rachel Martindale who delivered a terrific all-around performance. Martindale netted a game-high 21 points, seven rebounds, four assists and three steals. Senior Madelyn Fischer added eight points and five rebounds.

After missing the first 10 games of the season, junior guard Brynn Serbin made her return from injury and logged 14 minutes of action. The slick passing and shifty point guard had a solid season debut with two points, three rebounds and three assists. For her inspirational performance, Serbin was named the Wright Automotive Player of the Game.

North Allegheny remains unbeaten with an 11-0 record overall and 4-0 mark in Section 1-6A. Butler falls to 6-5 overall and 2-2 in section play. The Lady Tigers will visit Central Dauphin on Saturday at noon.
