Zach Smith Wins 2nd Straight Section 3-AAA Individual Title
Seven North Allegheny wrestlers medaled and senior Zach Smith won gold for the second straight year at the Section 3-AAA Individual Championships. In a dominating performance, Smith barely broke a sweat as he won all three of his bouts at 195 pounds with first period falls. In the championship bout, Smith pinned Plum’s KeyShawn Smith in 43 seconds.
Sean Kalmeyer and Jake Woodley earned silver medals at 145 and 170 pounds, respectively. Jake Hinkson claimed a bronze medal at 132 pounds with a 12-3 major decision over Seneca Valley’s Alex Fischer. In similar fashion, Sean Hoover took third place at 152 pounds with a win by fall over Knoch’s Brandon Yobst.
Other Tiger medalists included Zach Stedeford who took fourth place at 113 pounds and Jacob Fritch who took sixth place at 160 pounds. The top five wrestlers in each bracket qualify for the WPIAL championships next week.
The WPIAL individual championships begin on Thursday night at 5:30 pm and run through Saturday.
