Anna Li Reaches WPIAL Singles Finals
It’s a familiar matchup in the WPIAL Class AAA singles championship this afternoon as North Allegheny’s Anna Li will take on Shady Side Academy’s Ananya Dua. These two have met plenty of times before, including last year’s PIAA final in which Dua edged Li for state gold. Li will have home court advantage today as the contest will be played the North Allegheny.
Li reached today’s WPIAL singles final by rolling off three straight wins yesterday. In the opening round, Li breezed past Maura Sackett of Hempfield, 10-0. In the quarterfinals, Li earned a 10-3 victory over Fox Chapel’s Amanda Nord. Li was tested in the semifinals but outlasted Upper St. Clair’s Charlotte Madsen by set scores of 6-4, 4-6, 7-6 (7-2).
North Allegheny’s Tina Li also competed at the WPIAL singles tournament and picked up a first round win over Anna Komer of Peters Township, 10-4, before falling to Dua in the quarterfinals.
Today’s WPIAL Class AAA singles championship between Anna Li and Dua is slated for 2:00 pm at North Allegheny.
