The North Allegheny varsity Boys’ soccer team defeated Mercyhurst Prep on Saturday with a final score of 1-0.  This victory gives the Tigers 4-0 record on the season.  The first scoring opportunity came in the 13th minute as the Tigers nearly missed off of a cross from senior, Alex Dorazio.  Three minutes later, Mercyhurst created their first chance, but junior goalkeeper Luke Nolan made an incredible save on the breakaway.  The only goal of the game came in the 23rd minute when senior midfielder, Andrew Earle played a through ball to junior Sam Conti.  Conti crossed the ball into the middle, and after it bounced around the net and following multiple shots by the Tigers, junior forward Bobby Upton finished it off.  The score remained 1-0 North Allegheny at the half.

The second half contained frequent scoring chances constantly being coped with by both defenses.  Nolan made another fantastic save on a breakaway in the 60th minute.  Also, the Mercyhurst goalkeeper made a leaping save in the 67th minute off of a corner kick by senior Peter Tobias in a chance that could have given the Tigers a second goal.  NA held on to manage the close victory over Mercyhurst, 1-0.  Tiger defenders Nick Thornton, Andy Mahler, Zack Nimmo, Steve Binnig, Derek Schwartz, and Sean Dickerson continued their strong play allowing zero goals for the third consecutive game.  Goalkeeper, Luke Nolan, has yet to allow a goal this year.  The Tigers continue their season Monday night at home against Erie McDowell.
