Big second half leads to runaway victory over Central Catholic
North Allegheny hosted Central Catholic on Monday night in the regular season finale at Newman Stadium. After a slower start, the Tigers used four second-half goals to pull away from the Vikings and win the match 5-0.
NA dominated possession in the first 20 minutes of the game and in the 20th minute, Nathan Katari streaked down the left side, fed a cross into the middle of the box that deflected off a Viking defender and onto the foot of Mykola Desysenko who scored to give North Allegheny the 1-0 lead. Things evened out for the remainder of the half and it got very chippy in the last five minutes with both teams getting a yellow card.
Central Catholic would get their best chance of the night in the 52nd minute when a perfectly executed cross was almost headed in but keeper Emiliano Perin who had only been in the game for nine minutes made an outstanding save to keep the score where it was. Three minutes later, the Central Catholic goalkeeper misplayed a ball in front of his net and Katari was there to pounce on the mistake and give the Tigers a 2-0 lead. In the last 11 minutes of the game, NA exploded offensively as Vik Vaders, Kevin Chen and Jacob Vojtas would all score to expand the North Allegheny lead to 5-0. Vaders’ goal was assisted by Will Love, Chen’s goal came on a free kick from 20 yards out and Vojtas scored on a great feed from Harper Boles.
Ryan Young, Perin and Ryan Dyga combined for the clean sheet. For scoring his first career goal, Vaders was named the Wright Automotive Player of the Game.
North Allegheny finishes the regular season with a 14-3-1 record. They finish co-section champions with Fox Chapel. The Tigers will have to wait until Wednesday to find out their playoff fate, as the WPIAL will release the boys and girls soccer brackets at 1:00 p.m.
