
Boys Wrestling finishes in fourth place at Allegheny Countys; LaQuatra takes silver
North Allegheny traveled to Fox Chapel High School on Friday and Saturday to participate in the Allegheny County Tournament. It was a very successful two days for the Tigers, who finished fourth out of 37 teams, with a runner-up, two third-place finishes, and a fourth-place finish. NA also had sixth and seventh-place finishers in the tournament.
Charlie LaQuatra came in second place at 114 lbs. After getting a bye, LaQuatra won by tech fall in the second round before getting pins in the third round, quarterfinals and semifinals. LaQuatra fell in the finals to Bruce Anderchak of Quaker Valley but the 4-1 day was good enough for the silver medal.
Gus Stedeford and Griffen Reid each came in third place for NA.
Stedeford also started in the second round, where he won by tech fall before getting pins in the third round and quarterfinals. He dropped a 4-2 decision in the semifinals before bouncing back to win by major decision in the consolation semifinals. In the third-place match, Stedeford pinned Jonah Cable of Shaler in 3:27 to pick up the bronze medal.
Reid won by tech fall to get his day going in the second round before picking up a pin in the third round. He dropped a tough 4-3 decision in the quarterfinals but won his next three matches in the consolation bracket to get himself into the third-place match. Reid won the third-place match by forfeit over Trent Reese of Plum, who had beaten him in the quarterfinals, to take third place.
Evan Schomburg and Bradyn McConneha were fourth-place finishers for the Tigers.
Schomburg won his first three matches, two by pin and one by tech fall, before falling 8-6 in the semifinals. Schomburg bounced back to win by tech fall in the consolation semifinals before dropping the third-place match, to finish in fourth.
McConneha won his first match by injury default before winning by fall in his next two matches. He lost in the semifinals before pinning Ben Lloyd of Mt. Lebanon in the consolation semifinals to get to the third-place match. McConneha lost a tough 3-2 decision in the third-place match to take home fourth place.
Mason Hartung ended the weekend in sixth place. Hartung won his first three matches by fall to get to the semifinals. In the semifinals, he dropped a 4-2 decision. Hartung lost both bouts in the consolation bracket.
Kellen Buggey finished the two-day tournament in seventh place. He won by tech fall in the second round to open the day before falling in the third round. Buggey fought through the consolation bracket going 3-1, good enough to reach the seventh-place match at 160 lbs. In the seventh-place match, Buggey finished strong defeating Alex Wylly of Riverview 14-5 (major decision).
Brody Barnhart went 4-2 and showed great resilience after dropping his opening match. Kyran Rautenbach, Dalton Stragand and Joseph Synan went 3-2 on the weekend. Charles Miller went 2-2. Nathan Orlando, Colin Sefick and Eli Mager picked up wins for the Tigers.

North Allegheny returns to the mat on Wednesday in a massive match at Butler at 7:15 p.m. The winner of the match will be the Section 4-AAA champion. This match will be broadcast on the North Allegheny Sports Network.
