Continued Success For Hinkson, Smith At PIAA Tournament
Both of North Allegheny’s representatives at the Class AAA PIAA Wrestling Championships in Hershey had successful performances in day two of the tournament. Sophomore Jake Hinkson continued his run through the 132 pound bracket with a quarterfinal victory over Chad Haegele of Arch Bishop Wood by a 6-3 decision. Hinkson advances to the semifinals tomorrow to face WPIAL champion A.C. Headlee of Waynesburg.
At 195 pounds, Zach Smith rebounded from a narrow first round loss on Thursday night with back-to-back wins in the consolation bracket. Smith began the day with a second period fall over Brendan Zimmie of Spring Ford and followed that up with a 6-4 decision over District 1 champion Xavier Ferrizzi of Owen J. Roberts High School. Smith will next face Eli Grape of Upper St. Clair in the fourth round of the consolation bracket.
