Defensive second half gets NA back in the win column
North Allegheny hosted the Knoch Knights on Friday afternoon on the first day of the NA/Wright Automotive Holiday Tournament at UPMC Court. The Tigers allowed seven points in the second half to get back in the win column with a 67-27 victory over Knoch.
The full-court pressure gave Knoch fits in the first half as NA continuously got turnovers in the backcourt turning them into easy buckets. North Allegheny exploded out to a 20-3 lead and led 26-6 at the end of the first quarter. Knoch fought back in the second quarter getting some shots to fall from the outside. The Knights would outscore the Tigers 14-10 in the second quarter but NA still led 36-20 going into halftime.
The third quarter was very defensive as North Allegheny only scored nine points in the frame. The Tigers defense carried them throughout the quarter only allowing four points and NA led 45-24 going into the fourth quarter. Vange Balouris had seven of the nine points in the quarter. The final frame was all North Allegheny as they outscored Knoch 22-3 to roll to a 67-27 win.
Balouris finished with 20 points. For her efforts, she was named the Wright Automotive Player of the Game. Natalie Kinross added 13 points while Leah Skweres had seven.
North Allegheny improves to 2-5 overall. Knoch falls to 3-6. The Tigers will be in action tomorrow in the Holiday Bash from UPMC Court when they take on Oakland Catholic at noon. This game will be broadcast on the NA Sports Network.
