Four Tigers advance to PIAA West Regional

North Allegheny traveled to Canon-McMillan High School on Friday and Saturday to compete in the WPIAL Individual Championships. The Tigers had four wrestlers finish in the top seven in their respective weight class, punching their ticket to the PIAA West Regional. Bradyn McConneha finished in fourth place while Mason Hartung and Griffen Reid were fifth-place finishers. Gus Stedeford ended the weekend in seventh place.

McConneha got off to a fast start winning his first round matchup with a 13-second pin and his quarterfinal matchup with a 66-second pin. He would fall in the semifinals to Philup Rearick of Armstrong before bouncing back in the consolation semifinals to get to the third-place match. McConneha would drop the third-place match to Cam Danna of West Allegheny to finish the weekend in fourth place.

Hartung started the weekend winning by fall before dropping a 4-2 decision to Jake Stephenson of Waynesburg in the quarterfinals. Hartung fought through the consolation bracket winning his next two bouts to get to the consolation semifinals. Hartung would lose his consolation semifinals bout but would defeat Mark Gray of Kiski Area in the fifth-place match to finish the weekend.

Reid would win his first two matches of the weekend, one by tech fall and one by decision to get to the semifinals. In the semifinals, Reid fell to Maddox Shaw of Thomas Jefferson. He would drop his consolation semifinal match but would come back to win a 4-2 decision over Cole Gibbons of Mt. Lebanon in the fifth-place match.

Stedeford had an opening round 8-0 win before falling to Nico Fanella of Indiana in the quarterfinals. Stedeford would go 1-1 in the consolation bracket to get to the seventh-place match. In a winner moves on, loser goes home situation, Stedeford defeated Jake Lilley of Connellsville by major decision (15-5) to punch his ticket to the PIAA West Regional.

Kellen Buggey, Evan Schomburg, Charlie LaQuatra and Joseph Synan all went 1-2 on the weekend.

McConneha, Hartung, Reid and Stedeford will return to Canon-McMillan next weekend to take part in the PIAA West Regional Tournament. This will be another two-day event going Friday and Saturday.
