Grafton, Gorman Win Gold; 11 Tigers Medal At Section 3-AAA Tournament

North Allegheny crowned two champions and had 11 wrestlers medal at the Section 3-AAA individual tournament on Saturday at Fox Chapel High School.

After a second place and third place finish at the section tournament the last two seasons, senior Ben Grafton took home the previously elusive section gold with a convincing 11-1 major decision over Eli Reese of Knoch at 285 pounds.  Making his first appearance at the section tournament, freshman Nick Gorman won the title at 113 pounds with an 11-7 decision over Hunter Swedish of Seneca Valley.

Three other Tigers reached the title bout in their respective weight classes. Sophomore Dylan Coy (120), freshman Grant MacKay (152) and senior Nick Marcenelle (182) all took home silver medals.

Five NA grapplers earned trips to the third-place consolation finals and all came away victorious. Freshman Sam Horton (106), freshman Nathan Monteparte (126), junior Max Stedeford (138), senior Freddy Junko (145) and senior Ian Branstetter (160) all won bronze for the Tigers.

Picking a up fifth-place medal at 132 pounds was freshman A.J. Rohan with a 1-0 decision over Colton Spohn of Butler.

All 11 North Allegheny wrestlers that medaled at the Section 3-AAA tournament have qualified for the WPIAL Class AAA individual wrestling tournament next week at Canon-McMillan.
