Lady Tigers Bounce Butler, 52-28
North Allegheny won its 10th game in a row with a 52-28 victory over the Butler Golden Tornado. Butler opened the week with an upset over Shaler, but the Golden Tornado were no match for the Tigers in this Section 3-AAAA contest, falling behind by 16 by halftime.
North Allegheny smothered Butler with its pressing defense and dominated the glass, outrebounding Butler 40-25. The Tigers grabbed 19 offensive boards and NA junior Taylor Lake corralled 10 rebounds by halftime, on her way to a 13-point and 13-rebound performance.
North Allegheny jumped to a 28-13 lead at the half and was never threatened by Butler in this contest. Junior Abby Gonzales posted 12 points and five assists while senior Meg Morningstar added eight points, 12 rebounds and four blocks. Butler was led by Julia Baxter’s 10 points and 10 rebounds.
The Lady Tigers improves to 14-2 overall and 7-1 in Section 3-AAAA. Butler falls to 6-12 overall and 3-6 in section play. North Allegheny hosts Hampton on Saturday night in a non-section contest, part of the Hoops for a Cure basketball tournament. Tip-off is set for 7:00 pm.
