Lady Tigers Claw Past Mountain Lions, 46-42

The North Allegheny girls’ basketball team earned a hard-fought 46-42 win against perennial District 6 contender, Altoona, on Friday night. The Tigers defense forced 21 turnovers and outscored the Mountain Lions, 11-7, in the final stanza to secure the win. Senior Hayley Zeise garnered a team-high five steals, while adding seven points and seven rebounds in a fine all-around performance.

Junior Courtney Roman netted a team-best 11 points, followed by Rachel Martindale and Piper Morningstar who posted 10 points apiece. Martindale also grabbed four steals and four rebounds. Sophomore Brynn Serbin totaled eight rebounds to pace the Tigers on the glass. Altoona was paced by Amber Newberry’s 16 points and Paige Whitfield’s 12 points.

North Allegheny leaps to 14-1 overall following the non-section win. Altoona dips to 10-5 overall. The Tigers will face another District 6 opponent on Saturday afternoon with a road contest against the State College Little Lions.
