The North Allegheny girls’ basketball team turned 25 Baldwin turnovers into a blowout victory as the Lady Tigers smothered the Highlanders, 66-40, in a non-section game on Friday afternoon.  The Tigers forced 19 turnovers by halftime and used the thefts to spark two decisive runs in the first half.

Trailing 5-4 in the early stages of the game, the Tigers pounced for a 13-0 run to end the first quarter to bring the score to 17-5, North Allegheny.  Baldwin’s Alex Barr connected on a three-pointer to trim the score to 17-8, but the Tigers responded with a 16-0 run to effectively put the game out of reach.  By halftime, NA held a 39-15 lead and had limited the Highlanders to just 3 of 9 shooting from the field.

In all the Tigers shot 42 percent from the field while the Highlanders were 10 of 36 on attempts, good for only 28 percent. Sophomore Lauren Gilbert was the team-high scorer for Baldwin, netting 12 points.

Fourth-ranked North Allegheny improves to 7-2 overall while 10th-ranked Baldwin drops to 6-4.  The Lady Tigers return to Section 3-AAAA play with a visit to Oakland Catholic on Monday night.
