The NA Lady Tigers visited Hempfield Tuesday evening and survived a hard fought match, 3-2. The Tigers got on the board just a minute and a half into the game, when sophomore forward Angie Genter directed an Erin Coran cross through the Spartan goalie’s legs and into the net. Coran tallied NA’s second goal of the first half at the 13:24 mark off an assist from sophomore midfielder Bridget Russell.  Despite controlling play for most of the half, the Tigers were unable to convert multiple scoring chances, and the half ended with NA up 2-0.

The Spartans came out of halftime strong and matched the Tigers’ intensity, but NA’s defense stood firm. Led by senior defenders Lily DeNoma and Anna Hopkins, and junior defender Jenna Beam, the Tigers refused to give ground as Hempfield attempted to drive the ball deep into NA territory.  Momentum seesawed back and forth until the 13:42 mark, when senior midfielder Brooke Cameron fired a drive into the back of the Spartans’ cage to give the Tigers a 3-0 lead. Cameron’s goal would prove to be the game winner, with Hempfield scoring two late goals on penalty corners to make the contest close.

The win brings NA’s Conference and Section record to 3-0, and their overall record to 3-3-1. For the game, the Lady Tigers had 17 shots on goal and 14 penalty corners.  NA will look to improve on their scoring opportunities as they head into another tough road match against undefeated Section foe Penn-Trafford on Thursday evening.  Game time is 7:30 pm (JV at 6:00 pm).
