Miller’s Two Goals Lifts NA To Win Over Butler

Posted on:

North Allegheny earned a season sweep of the Butler Golden Tornado, collecting a 2-0 victory on Tuesday night at Newman Stadium. The Tigers win came by the identical score of NA’s earlier triumph at Butler on September 16. In the first half of this affair, North Allegheny and Butler plodded to a scoreless tie at intermission with neither team generating much offense, although the Tigers did outshoot the Golden Tornado, 9-0.

Butler’s best scoring chance of the game came in the 30th minute of the second half but the Golden Tornado were denied by the North Allegheny defense.  Junior Emily Lyon got the start in net for the Tigers and was rarely tested, making two saves on the only shots she faced. With Butler held at bay, North Allegheny took the lead and put the Golden Tornado away on a pair of second half goals by sophomore Amanda Miller.  Miller’s goals were assisted by Megan Van Kirk and Savana Yurick.

With the win, North Allegheny remains in first place in Section 2-AAA with an 8-0-1 record and improves to 12-0-1 overall.  Butler falls to 6-6-1 overall and 3-5 in section play. North Allegheny hosts Hampton at 5:30 pm at Newman Stadium, game one of a Girls/Boys Soccer doubleheader between the two schools.
