NA advances to quarterfinals with sweep of Latrobe
The 2023 WPIAL Runner-ups took the court on Monday afternoon in the WPIAL First Round looking to get back to the WPIAL Championship and avenge their loss from last year. North Allegheny took the first step towards that with a 5-0 sweep over Latrobe at North Allegheny High School.
In singles, Mia Kaufman won 6-0, 6-4 in the No. 1 singles slot while Audrey Zheng anchored the No. 2 singles spot over Allison Messaro 6-0, 6-3. Kaitlyn Zeman quickly took down Brooke Coll in No. 3 singles 6-1, 6-0.
In No. 1 doubles, Cynthia Li and Alexa Richey were tested but a huge third set propelled them to a 6-3, 6-7(3-7), 6-0 victory over Maria Fetter and Julia Fetter. Remi Hayward and Kelly Tai defeated Jenny Galo and Bevan Stairs in No. 2 doubles by scores of 6-2 and 6-3.
North Allegheny advances to the WPIAL Quarterfinals where they will take on second-seeded Shady Side Academy on Wednesday at 3:00 p.m. at Shady Side Academy.
