NA Blanks Mt. Lebanon, 1-0

Posted on:

The North Allegheny field hockey team earned an important win in Section 1-AAA action with a 1-0 shutout of the Mt. Lebanon Blue Devils on Saturday evening at Newman Stadium.

The field was tilted in North Allegheny’s direction for most of the contest and the Tigers constant pressure eventually paid off for the game’s only goal late in the second quarter. On NA’s sixth penalty corner of the half, senior forward Ashley Loftis cashed in for a goal with just three seconds remaining before halftime for a 1-0. For her efforts, Loftis was named the Wright Automotive Player of the Game.

The Loftis goal was more than enough with the strong play of the NA defense and midfield. The Tigers led in penalty corners, 11-1, and outshot the Blue Devils, 8-0. The determined midfield play of Ella Strzempek, Maria Duchi and Mila Prusak held Mt. Lebanon in check throughout the contest. On the few occasions when the Blue Devils threatened the circle, defensemen Supritha Challa, Sophia Caruso and Raina Dodson quickly squashed the uprising.

With the win, North Allegheny improves to 2-2 overall and 2-1 in Section 1-AAA. Mt. Lebanon falls to 1-2 overall and in the section. The Tigers return to action on Wednesday at Norwin at 7:00 p.m.
