The North Allegheny girls’ basketball team climbed into a first-place tie atop Section 1-6A with a 60-42 win over the top-ranked Norwin Knights. NA snapped Norwin’s 12-game winning streak and dealt the Knights their first section loss of the season. Both teams sit at 10-1 in section with three section games remaining.

In the first matchup between these two teams on Jan. 2, Norwin hit 11 3-pointers on its way to a 63-55 win. In Tuesday night’s rematch, the Tigers limited the Knights to 2 of 13 shooting from beyond the arc in the first half and allowed only five treys for the entire game.

The Tigers built a 37-16 lead early in the third quarter before Norwin seemed to gain some momentum with a 7-0 run to cut the score to 37-23. North Allegheny answered back with a 10-0 run for a 47-23 lead and the outcome was never in doubt.

Joining Groetsch in double figures was freshman Jasmine Timmerson with 14 points and three 3-pointers. Junior Paige Morningstar chipped in with nine points.
