
NA clinches playoff berth with 56-26 win over Woodland Hills
North Allegheny hosted Woodland Hills on Friday night at UPMC Court in a Section 1-6A contest. The Tigers offense got off to a great start and NA rolled to a 56-26 win over the Wolverines. The win paired with a North Hills loss over Pine-Richland clinched a playoff berth for North Allegheny.
The Tigers offense started hot scoring 27 points in the opening frame. Leading 17-10, NA finished the first quarter on a 10-1 run and led 27-11 after a quarter of play. Vange Balouris had 11 points in the opening quarter. The scoring slowed down for the Tigers in the second, but the defense ramped up as they would only allow four points in the period and expanded the lead to 37-15.
In the third quarter, North Allegheny extended the lead to 49-19, triggering the running clock, and the Tigers coasted to a 56-26 victory.
Balouris finished with 21 points. For her efforts, she was named the Wright Automotive Player of the Game. Rosalia Varlotta finished with 18 points and dominated the glass all night. Leah Skweres added seven points.
North Allegheny improves to 7-10 overall and 4-4 in the section. Woodland Hills falls to 5-11 overall and 0-8 in section play. Quick turnaround for the Tigers as they will be right back in action tomorrow when they travel to Indiana to play a non-section contest at 2:30 p.m.
