NA comes up short in battle against Chartiers Valley
North Allegheny hosted the Chartiers Valley Colts on Saturday at UPMC Court in a non-section contest. The Tigers battled the Colts into the last minutes but came up short falling 43-38.
NA got off to a strong start getting a three-pointer from Natalie Kinross and a bucket from Vange Balouris to jump out 5-0. Chartiers Valley responded scoring the next 11 points to take control of the half and the Tigers trailed 26-15 going into the locker rooms.
In the second half, the defensive intensity picked up for North Allegheny as they started to force turnovers and score quickly in transition. Leah Skweres sparked the third quarter comeback scoring eight points in the period. The Tigers outscored Chartiers Valley 17-4 in the third quarter and led 32-30 going into the fourth quarter.
NA had three-point lead early in the fourth quarter getting baskets from Balouris and great defense from Cate Pingpank and Lily Broms but ultimately fell 43-38.
Kinross led the way with 15 points. Skweres and Balouris each had 10 points. For her efforts on defense and sparking the third quarter rally, Skweres was named the Wright Automotive Player of the Game.
North Allegheny falls to 1-2 overall. Chartiers Valley improves to 2-2 overall. The Tigers have the week off before traveling to Ohio next weekend to take part in the Archbishop Hoban Tournament. The first game will feature NA taking on Massillon (OH) at 1:45 p.m. on Saturday.
