
NA defeated by Butler, 50-41
North Allegheny traveled to Butler High School on Thursday night to take on the Golden Tornado in a battle for third place in the section. The Tigers got off to a great start but ultimately fell in the matchup by a score of 50-41.
NA scored the first eight points of the game to jump out to the early lead. Butler scored the next six points and the game was even for the remainder of the quarter with North Allegheny leading 15-13. The Golden Tornado had a big second quarter outscoring the Tigers 18-8. NA got a little bit of momentum going into the locker room as trailing 31-20, Natalie Kinross hit a buzzer-beater three to trim the deficit to 31-23 at halftime.
Although North Allegheny gained some momentum going into the locker room, Butler had the big third quarter as well, outscoring NA 16-6 and leading 47-29 going into the final period. The Tigers didn’t quit as they played great defense in the fourth quarter and got the game into single digits multiple times, but could never catch the Tornado, ultimately falling 50-41.
Leah Skweres and Rosalia Varlotta each had 10 points for North Allegheny. Kinross added nine points.
North Allegheny falls to 9-11 overall and finishes section play with a 5-5 record. Butler improves to 11-9 overall and finishes section play at 6-4. The Tigers return to action on Saturday when they host Cathedral Prep at UPMC Court at noon in a playoff tune-up. This game will be broadcast on the North Allegheny Sports Network.
