
NA Drops Opener At State College Tip-Off, 77-71
North Allegheny junior guard Curtis Aiken poured in 27 points in the 2016-17 season opener but the State College Little Lions outlasted the Tigers, 77-71, on Friday night. The host Lions topped the Tigers at the State College Tip-Off tournament thanks in part to a double-double by Drew Friberg who posted 25 points and 10 rebounds.
The Tigers started strong and took a 25-21 lead through one quarter of play. Along with Aiken’s big night, NA senior Isaac Barnes tallied 13 points and 10 rebounds. Senior Luke Carter added to the Tigers attack with 11 points, with 3 for 3 shooting from beyond the arc.
State College had the better of the play in the middle quarters and held a 58-44 heading into the fourth period. Brandon Clark totaled 14 points for the Little Lions, while Tommy Friberg added 13 points. North Allegheny valiantly tried to rally in the fourth quarter but State College held off the Tigers for a 77-71 victory.
North Allegheny will take on LaSalle College this afternoon at 1:30 p.m. in day two of the tip-off tournament.
