NA falls 3-2 to Mt. Lebanon in home opener
by: Bob Orkwis
After opening the season with a 4-0 win over South Fayette, North Allegheny hit the ice at the Baierl Ice Complex in Warrendale for the first time this season, hosting the Mt. Lebanon Blue Devils.
Paced by a hat trick from forward Liam Shinn, the Blue Devils were victorious in their season opener 3-2.
The junior Shinn scored twice in the second period to put Mt. Lebanon up 2-0.
William Kasunich netted his first goal of the campaign on a power play late in the second period off assists from Noah Logan and Travis Lemark to pull the Tigers within a goal.
Shinn scored his third goal at 6:57 of the third period to make the score 3-1. Griffin Krupp picked up a helper on the goal, his second assist of the game for the Blue Devils.
Less than three minutes later, Marc Joyson took a nice feed on the right wing from Topher Moran and fired a wrist shot that found its way into the net for his second goal of the campaign to make the score 3-2. Lamark picked up the secondary assist, his second point of the game.
But the Tigers couldn’t get another puck past senior goalie Vince Canella, even with the extra attacker, and Mt. Lebanon secured the victory.
Cam Junker, (1-1), made 24 saves in goal for North Allegheny.
With his second period power play marker, and first goal of the season, Kasunich was chosen as the Wright Automotive Player of the Game.
The Tigers travel to face Peters Township in their next game on October 8th, before North Allegheny opens a three-game homestand against Central Catholic, Bethel Park and Thomas Jefferson.
