Both the Tigers and Eagles came into the contest after posting shutouts on opening night. The match between the schools from District 3 and District 7 marked the sixth straight year the teams have met. Cumberland Valley broke a 1-1 tie with a goal in the 71st minute to defeat North Allegheny at Newman Stadium.
The Tigers took a 1-0 on a penalty kick goal. After Cumberland Valley was called for a foul in the box, junior Emma Schupansky converted the shot in the 14th minute for a 1-0. The Eagles tied the match up with a PK goal of their own in the 37th minute. An inadvertent handball in the box allowed senior Sienna Manns to tie the score at 1-1.
North Allegheny had possession and opportunities to break the tie in the second half but was stymied by the aggressive goalkeeping of Chelsea Coburn. The game-winning goal came when freshman Grace Sines took a pass on the left wing from Lily Hopwood and sent a left-footed strike into the next from 32 yards out for the game-winning goal. Cines also scored the only goal for the Eagles in their season-opening win over Seneca Valley.
Schupansky was the Wright Automotive Player of the Game after netting her first goal of the season and the fourth of her career.
North Allegheny falls to 1-1 and faces Latrobe Wednesday night in a final non-section tune-up before visiting North Hills to open the 4A Section 3 slate.
