NA Garners 1st Place At Wright Automotive Tournament

The North Allegheny girls’ wrestling team started 2023 off with a bang at the Wright Automotive Girls Tournament this weekend. The Lady Tigers captured the first tournament title in school history by finishing 1st out of the 15 team field. The Lady Tigers sent five wrestlers into the finals, with four claiming titles.Freshman Sophia Folks (130 lbs) and junior Audrey Morrison (142 lbs) both captured their first ever high school tournament titles.
Folks opened the tournament with a win by fall over Woodland Hills’  Asia Fowler and a quarterfinal win by fall over Fox Chapel’s Yoqi Zhou. In the semifinals, Folks picked up her third fall of the day over Seneca Valley’s Natalie Tofanelli. In the finals, Folks defeated Connellsville’s Janayah Nobles by major decision 8-0. Morrison also opened the tournament with a quarterfinal win by fall over Trinity’s Kenzie Phasupong. In the semifinals, Morrison picked up her second fall over Saegertown’s Royale Gaus. In the finals, Morrison defeated Southmoreland’s Taryn Hollis by decision 6-0.Sophomore Kaylee Dean (235 lbs) went 3-0 with two falls. She defeated Southmoreland’s Zoey Murphy 3-0 in the finals. Junior Leyna Rumpler (155 lbs) went 5-0 on the day. She picked up three falls and a decision before pinning teammate Maya Scott in the finals. Sophomore Maya Scott (155 lbs) finished the day with four falls and a 4-1 record enroute to her second place finish.Senior Callie Rautenbach (142 lbs) won her quarterfinal match by fall over Seneca Valley’s Hannah Hornick. In the semi finals, Rautenbach fell to Taryn Hollis of Southmoreland 9-4. She bounced back with a 3-0 decision over Trinity’s Kenzie Phasupong. In the 3rd place match, she faced Seneca Valley’s Hannah Hornick again and won by fall. Freshman Amya Sanford (235 lbs) also finished in 3rd with one fall.
