NA Girls’ Soccer Edges Franklin Regional, 2-1

The Lady Tigers scored two first half goals and held on in the second half for a 2-1 win over the Franklin Regional Panthers on Saturday afternoon at the Hampton Invitational.  North Allegheny sophomore Marina Thornton tallied the game’s first marker on a crossing pass from senior Alexa Mermigas to give the Tigers a 1-0 lead. Later in the opening half, North Allegheny took a 2-0 lead when senior Ryleigh Gapczynski scored with a tremendous left-footed shot on a fine crossing pass from senior Lauren Briggs

The Panthers closed the gap in the second half on a goal by freshman Autumn Velasquez to cut the score to 2-1.  Despite the FR goal, the Lady Tigers held on in the second half for the one goal victory. North Allegheny outshot the Panthers 10-9 and led on corner kicks, 2-1. Goalie Madison Martin made seven saves to preserve the victory.

The Lady Tigers stay undefeated with win, improving to 6-0 overall. Franklin Regional falls to 2-3-1 overall. North Allegheny returns to section play on Monday night with a visit to Butler.  Game time is slated for 7:30 pm.
