NA Grapplers Win Title Allegheny County Tournament
Ahead of the Section 3-AAA tournament this week, the North Allegheny wrestling team earned top honors at the Allegheny Country Wrestling Tournament. The Tigers took first place this weekend at Fox Chapel with a team score of 210, finishing ahead of second place Pine-Richland (165.5) and third place Shaler (151).
There were three Tigers who claimed tournament gold, Jake Hinkson at 132 pounds, Zach Smith at 195 pounds, and Layne Skundrich at 220 pounds. For Skundrich (pictured above), it was his second straight title at the Allegheny County Tournament.
Other top performers for the Tigers included Zach Stedeford who took second place at 120 pounds. North Allegheny had two fourth place finishers, Jacob Downing at 106 pounds and Sean Hoover at 152 pounds.
The Tigers look to defend their section crown on Wednesday night at the Section 3-AAA championships. North Allegheny will host the section tournament with action beginning at 6:00 pm. NA takes on Fox Chapel while Shaler faces Pine-Richland in the section semifinals. The title tilt is slated for 7:30 pm.
