North Allegheny traveled to Fox Chapel High School on Saturday to take part in the Northern Section Individual tournament. The Tigers put together a great showing with nine wrestlers qualifying for the WPIAL Individual Championships, six of them getting to the finals, and three of them winning gold.

Evan Schomburg, Griffen Reid and Kellen Buggey all left Fox Chapel with Northern Section gold.

Schomburg wasn’t tested all day winning his quarterfinal bout by tech fall and winning in the semifinals by forfeit before defeating Michael Worsen of Fox Chapel by major decision, 11-3, in the finals to take home the gold.

Reid had a similar day winning in the quarterfinals and semifinals by tech fall before taking down Gavin Rush of Butler by a score of 13-1 (major decision) to win the title.

Buggey also didn’t need six minutes in any of his bouts as he won by tech fall in the quarterfinals and defeated Alex Weber of Shaler by fall in the semis before upending Travis Shearer from Kiski Area by a score of 27-11 (tech fall) in the championship bout.

Charlie LaQuatra, Gus Stedeford and Bradyn McConneha all claimed section silver.

LaQuatra won by tech fall in the quarterfinals before defeating Daemon Phipps of Penn Hills 10-4 to get to the finals. He was tripped up by Brady Rohaly of North Hills to finish with the silver medal.

Stedeford made quick work of his first two opponents winning by fall in 1:44 and 2:35 to get to the finals at 133 lbs. In the title tilt, Stedeford lost to Nico Fanella of Indiana to end the day as runner-up.

McConneha started the day with a pin of Central Catholic’s Dominic Petruzzi in 45 seconds. The semifinals were a little tougher as he came away with a 4-1 decision before falling to Philup Rearick of Armstrong in the section final.

Mason Hartung ended the day with a bronze medal while Joseph Synan was a fourth-place finisher.

Hartung won his first match of the day by pinning Soloman Weigand of Pine-Richland in 20 seconds. He fell by a 10-7 decision in the semifinals before bouncing back to win by fall in the consolation semifinals. In the third-place match, Hartung pinned Jack Viti from Fox Chapel in 2:30 to finish with the bronze.

In the third-place match, Synan fell to Nicholas Savannah from Butler in a hard-fought 5-4 decision.
