NA Lacrosse Upended By Franklin Regional, 8-6

North Allegheny saw a four-game winning streak snapped on Monday night as the Franklin Regional Panthers upended the Tigers, 8-7.  The Panthers keep their playoff hopes alive in Division 1, Section 2, with the win and prevented the Tigers from locking up a playoff berth.

In the first period, a pair of Kyle Rullan goals helped the Tigers keep pace with the Panthers in a 2-2 ballgame with 4:37 left in the quarter.  Then Franklin Regional rolled off three straight goals that ultimately proved critical in the game’s outcome.  Two goals by Justin Naugle and another marker by Dom Giannangeli gave the Panthers a 5-2 lead with 4:06 to go before halftime.  The three goal spurt gave Franklin Regional a lead they would not relinquish.

Over the final two quarters, the Tigers clawed their way back to within a goal four different times but could not find the equalizer. Senior Nick Koebley notched a hat trick for the second straight game to pace the offense.  Stephen Kelleher and Zech Nachazel also tallied goals in the game for NA.  Alec McGovern led the Tigers with a team-high six ground balls and Greg Ferringer played hard-nosed defense, forcing four errors from the Panthers.

North Allegheny slips to 10-6 overall and 4-2 in section play following the loss. Franklin Regional jumps to 7-6 overall and 3-3 in the section.  The Tigers will round out their section schedule on Wednesday night with a tough battle against the first place Pine-Richland Rams. The game will be broadcast live via the internet on the North Allegheny Sports Network. Opening faceoff is slated for 7:30 pm.
