NA opens section play with sweep of Mars

North Allegheny cross country teams had their first section meet of the season against the Mars Planets at North Park on Tuesday afternoon. Despite the hot temperatures, the Tigers ran very well to best the Planets on their home course.

The girls had a perfect score, 15-50, and took the top 17 spots in the race. Freshman Lydia Stuart was fantastic grabbing her first victory as a varsity runner (20:52).  Sophomore Gabby Pizon was seven seconds behind in second place. Junior Tess Pagnotta was solid in third with senior Nicole Reubi not far behind in fourth place. Freshman Mary Lucas executed a nice race plan, securing the fifth spot for the Lady Tigers while sophomore Abby Gordish finished in sixth and junior Esa Tate was seventh.

The boys beat the Planets, 17-46. They were led by senior Sebastian Klimchak who won with a 17:33. Senior Grey Lowman was great in a second place finish. Junior Justin Peoples had a strong finish, placing third while Mars’ top runner took the fourth spot. Coming in the 5-6-7-8 spots all within 15 seconds of each other were, in order, senior Sergio Abdallah, senior Clayton Blough, junior Jack Curren, and sophomore Wyatt Case.
Both teams improve to 2-0 overall and 1-0 in section play. Mars falls to 0-2 overall and 0-1 in the section. The Tigers return to action on Saturday when they participate in the Boardman Invitational in Youngstown, Ohio. That race will begin at 9:00 a.m.
