
NA Picks Up Section Win Over Pine-Richland
The North Allegheny girls’ tennis team continued team competition for the first time in two weeks and turned in a winning performance with a 4-1 triumph over Pine-Richland.
Coming off a third-place finish at the WPIAL Class individual singles tournament, junior Sara Fernandez rolled to a 6-0, 6-1, win against Kendall Kirkland at No. 1 singles. Senior Emily Wincko topped her opponent at No. 2 singles, Lily Hynds, by a 6-2, 6-3 decision. Senior Abbey Swirsding completed the sweep in singles play by defeating Rachel Smith, 6-1, 6-0, at No. 3 singles.
Similar to the singles dominance by NA, the No. 2 doubles tandem of Rebecca Murphy and Tia Soussou earned a 6-0, 6-0, whitewash of Kaitlyn Speidelsbach and Deeya Nayyar.
With the win, North Allegheny improves to 9-2 overall and 6-0 in the section. The Tigers will host Butler on Tuesday in another section contest.
