NA Seizes Victory Over Norwin In First Section Game, 2-1, In OT

Posted on:

Senior Hailey Wachowiak scored the game-winning goal in overtime to propel North Allegheny to a 2-1 triumph at Norwin on Wednesday night. The victory in the WPIAL Division I opener was also NA’s first of the season.

The Tigers held an extensive 12-4 advantage on penalty corners in the game, and fittingly, it was a penalty corner that set up the first goal of the night. With 3:23 on the first half clock, junior midfielder Marisa Hess scored on a corner for a 1-0 North Allegheny lead. Along with penalty corners, North Allegheny outshot Norwin, 14-4.

The pace was dictated by North Allegheny for most of the evening but the host Knights were able to finally break through early in the second half when Mackenzie Astorino buried a rebound with 28:16 to play in the game, tying the score at 1-1.

The contest remained deadlocked until Wachowiak tallied the game winning marker with 5:38 left in overtime. It was the second straight overtime game for the Lady Tigers.

With the win, North Allegheny improves to 1-3 overall and 1-0 in WPIAL Division I. The Lady Tigers will take a trip to Michigan for a pair of games over the weekend, beginning with Novi (MI) on Friday at 7:30 p.m.
