NA Smothers Butler In 4-0 Shutout

Posted on:

Riding the heels of an impressive win over the weekend, the North Allegheny boys’ soccer team continued its winning ways on Tuesday night with a 4-0 shutout of the Butler Golden Tornado. As they did on Saturday in their upset of Peters Township, the Tigers struck early and often against the Tornado for an insurmountable lead.

In the 2nd minute of the game, sophomore Josh Luchini scored the opening goal on a kick from 25 yards out for 1-0 NA lead. Luchini assisted on the next two goals as Dillon Thoma scored from point blank range in the game’s 5th minute, and Michael Peters netted a goal on a header with 20:29 to go in the first half for a 3-0 lead. For providing one goal and assisting on two others, Luchini was named the Wright Automotive Player of the Game.

The Tigers dominated the action for the majority of the first half, but Butler began to mount some pressure late in the first half and early in the second. However, the Golden Tornado managed only two shots on net as sophomore goalie Grant Glorioso posted NA’s second shutout of the season. Junior Ben Cinker capped the scoring with 3:41 to play in the second half on a fine crossing pass by Owen Leonard as the Tigers closed out a 4-0 victory.

With the win, North Allegheny leaps to 4-1 overall and 2-1 in Section 2-AAA. Butler slips to 3-2 overall and 1-2 in section play. The Tigers will visit the Pine-Richland Rams on Saturday afternoon in another section contest. Kickoff is slated for 2:30 pm.
