NA Sweeps North Hills In Final Dual Meet of Season
The North Allegheny swimming and diving teams traveled to North Hills to compete in the last dual meet of the season. The Tigers came away with a team victory sweep. The NA Boys earned a 107-74 win, while the Lady Tigers picked up a 102-73 triumph.
The NA girls completed the undefeated season with a final victory over North Hills to finish with an overall record of 10-0. The NA boys’ victory over North Hills improved their overall record to 9-1 for the season.
Overall, the Tigers girls won 8-of-12 events including the 1-meter diving competition. The NA boys also won 8-of-12 events.
The NA divers had a successful end to the regular season. Senior captain Eva Betz had a season high score of 204.20 to place first and conclude her impressive varsity career. Junior Zoe Ky took third place and junior Faith Miller performed several new dives. On the boys’ side, junior Will Schenk placed first with a 279.9, junior Alex Palermo placed second with a 196.30 and freshman Andrew Wasco finished his first season successfully.
The NA girls’ and boys’ swimmers had many fast swims during the night and multiple athletes had season best times including qualifying swims for the upcoming WPIAL championship meet.
On the girl’s side, NA had a victory in the 200-yard medley relay with the team of junior captain Lexi Sundgren, freshman Erin Cuba, freshman May Coffman, and freshman Ava Sharar.
The NA girls had a 1-2-3 sweep of the 200-yard freestyle by senior Isabella Dietz, sophomore Greta Mott, and freshman Shea Mahon. Dietz had a season best time in this event and improved her WPIAL qualifying time.
In the 200-yard individual medley event, the NA girls placed 1-3 with freshman Julianne Weaver and junior Mikayla Tieppo. Weaver obtained a WPIAL qualifying time with her swim.
The NA girls’ sprinters had an impressive 2-3-4 finish in the 50-yard freestyle from junior Rebecca Melanson, junior Delaney Kennedy, and junior Marissa Milliron.
In the 100-yard butterfly event, the NA girls finished 2-3-4 with senior Brooke Glinski, Cuba, and freshman Brianna Reinhart.
The NA girls finished 1-3-6 in the 100-yard freestyle with Sundgren, Coffman, and freshman Josie Daltorio.
The girls swept the 500-yard freestyle event with a 1-2-3 finish from Tieppo, junior Vivien Li, and junior Sophia Huwar.
The NA girls had a victory in the 200-yard freestyle relay with the team of Weaver, Sundgren, Glinski, and Mott. Weaver achieved her second WPIAL qualifying swim of the night with her 50-yard freestyle relay leadoff leg.
The NA girls finished 1-3-5 in the 100-yard backstroke event with Sharar, Cuba, and Melanson.
With the team victory in hand the NA girls swam exhibition for the final two events.
They had impressive swims in the 100-yard breaststroke event from sophomore Natalie Sens, Reinhart, and Mott.
Lastly, the NA girls finished with an exhibition victory in the 400-yard freestyle relay with the team of Weaver, Sundgren, Huwar and Sharar. Weaver achieved her third WPIAL qualifying swim of the night with her 100-yard freestyle relay leadoff leg.
The NA boys started with a second-place finish in the 200-yard medley relay with the team of sophomore Jake Rechenmacher, senior captain Stewart Messer, junior David Shi, and junior Keller Sens.
The NA boys swept the 200-yard freestyle event with a 1-2-3 finish from sophomore William Gao, senior captain Ethan Berty, and senior Hayden Klein.
In the 200-yard individual medley, the NA boys finished 2-3-4 with junior Asher Jones, sophomore Riley Williams, and freshman Andrew Li.
The NA boys had an impressive 1-2-5 finish in the 50-yard freestyle event with junior Eliot Maravich, freshman Nicholas Klein, and freshman Jackson Frazer. Maravich achieved a WPIAL qualifying swim with his victory.
The NA boys had another 1-2-3 sweep in the 100-yard butterfly with Messer, freshman Gus Miller, and junior David Shi. Both Messer and Miller had WPIAL qualifying swims in this event.
In the 100-yard freestyle event, the NA boys achieved a 1-2 finish from N. Klein, and junior Nico Jacobs-Alarcon. N. Klein achieved a WPIAL qualifying time in this event with his victory.
The NA boys swept the 500-yard freestyle event with junior Ben Gavran, sophomore Camden Wright, and A. Jones. Gavran achieved the impressive feat of a WPIAL qualifying time despite having his goggles fall off immediately after diving in the water.
In the 200-yard freestyle relay, the NA boys placed 1-2-3. The first-place team consisted of Messer, Maravich, sophomore Joshua Berty, and Miller.
The NA boys placed 1-3 in the 100-yard backstroke with sophomore Owen Williams, and Rechenmacher. O. Williams bettered his previous WPIAL qualifying time with this fast swim.
The NA boys also had the victory wrapped up early and swam exhibition for the final two events.
They had strong swims in the 100-yard breastroke from senior Jacob Yarosz, Messer, and Frazer.
The NA boys had a strong showing in the 400-yard freestyle relay event. Both Gao and Maravich achieved WPIAL qualifying swims in the 100-yard freestyle during their leadoff relay legs.
The Tigers will host multiple teams on Saturday, Feb. 18 at 12 p.m. for the Last Chance Invitation Meet. This will be the final chance for swimmers to qualify for the WPIAL Championships.
