
NA Swimmers Open Season With Sweep Of North Catholic
Freshman Mary Liz Flavin and junior Tommy McCaffrey each recorded two first-place finishes as the North Allegheny swimming and diving teams opened their seasons by sweeping Cardinal Wuerl North Catholic on Tuesday, December 8 at North Allegheny Senior High School. The girls won 86-61, while the boys won 77-12.
Flavin finished first in the 50-yard freestyle with a time of 26.04 and in the 100-yard freestyle with a time of 56.01. McCaffrey won the 500-yard freestyle in 5:12.17 and also won the 200-yard freestyle in 1:52.69.
For the girls, other first-place finishers were freshman Ally Christy in the 200-yard freestyle (2:06.52), sophomore Jordan Ennis in the 500-yard freestyle (5:42.16), junior Megan Christy in the 100-yard backstroke (1:04.51), and sophomore Serena Yan in the 100-yard breaststroke (1:10.88).
Other first place finishers for the boys were sophomore Matt Kuhn in the 200-yard individual medley (2:08.42), senior Gage Halle in the 50-yard freestyle (23.11), sophomore Zachary Shuckrow in the 100-yard butterfly (57.34), junior Max Gonzalez in the 100-yard freestyle (49.04), senior Dan Songer in the 100-yard backstroke (57.81) and freshman Jerry Chen in the 100-yard breaststroke (1:03.29).
The divers competed among themselves, as CWNC does not field a diving team. Eliza Gaber finished first among the NA girls with a score of 162.85. Stephen Savchik topped the NA boys with a score of 220.40.
