
NA wins game of runs, defeats Butler, 52-30
North Allegheny hosted the Butler Golden Tornado on Tuesday night at UPMC Court in the first game of a girl/boy doubleheader. It was a game of runs and the Tigers made the most of their’s coming away with a 52-30 victory in section action. The win moved NA into a three-way tie for second place with Pine-Richland and Butler.
After Butler scored the first two points of the game, North Allegheny went on a 16-0 run to jump out to a 16-2 lead and led 18-8 at the end of the first period. Things completely flipped in the second quarter as the Golden Tornado blanked the Tigers, outscoring them 11-0 and held a 19-18 lead at halftime.
NA took momentum back in the third quarter outscoring Butler 23-2 in the frame and led 41-21 after three. With the big lead, North Allegheny went bucket-for-bucket with the Golden Tornado in the final quarter and came away with the 52-30 win.
Leah Skweres led all scorers with 16 points. For her efforts, Skweres was named the Wright Automotive Player of the Game. Vange Balouris added 15 points.
North Allegheny improves to 5-7 overall and 3-2 in Section 1-6A. Butler falls to 8-6 overall and 3-2 in the section. The Tigers return to action on Saturday when they travel to Shaler to take on the Titans at 1:30 p.m.
