NA’s 23-Game Section Win Streak Snapped By Pine-Richland, 66-58
North Allegheny lost its first section game in almost two years as the Pine-Richland Rams upended the Lady Tigers, 66-58. The Tigers had won 23 consecutive section games before falling to Pine-Richland on the road. Prior to Monday night, the last NA loss in Section 3-AAAA occurred on December 17, 2012 in a road defeat to Oakland Catholic, 38-34.
Pine-Richland shot 55 percent from the field in the second half and outscored the Tigers, 24-8, in the third quarter to take a 47-28 lead into the fourth quarter. Amanda Kalin scored 23 points and posted eight rebounds to lead the Rams. Chelsea Rourke added 18 points and Kailtyn Jenkins reached double digits with 10.
Facing a 19-point deficit to begin the final period, the Tigers staged a furious rally and scored 30 points in the fourth. Senior Meg Morningstar scored a team-high 21 points on the night and junior Taylor Lake chipped in with 16 points and nine rebounds. However, the comeback bid was thwarted by the Rams who continued their hot shooting in the final quarter to outlast North Allegheny, 66-58.
The loss drops North Allegheny to 4-1 overall and 1-1 in Section 3-AAAA. Pine-Richland leaps to 4-2 overall and 1-1 in section play. The Tigers will face another tough test on Thursday night with a non-section visit to Norwin. Tip-off is set for 7:30 pm.
